Under the Gun staff has always been very supportive of its local Michigan music scene and is always up for hearing new unsigned talent. Come Find the Lion is a group of young men from Grand Rapids who’ve got their five song demo finished. They used both old and new songs on the demo, all of which can be heard on their Myspace.  The album may only have a few songs, but I believe the phrase “Its quality, not quantity that matters” applies to this album, there should be no trouble selling this cd or booking shows!

The first track, The Road Through the Wall starts off with a beautiful one minute instrumental from guitar, easily one of my favorite ways to start an album. Once the one minute mark hit, the drums and vocalist come roaring in. The band experiments with both screaming and singing which is nothing new, but I give them kudos for doing it well. The fact that the vocals can go from screaming into singing without sounding sketchy or downright crappy is amazing. That is something that really helps make or break a band of this genre in my opinion.

Though the first song seems to stick out as a top favorite for me I really cannot pinpoint one song I didn’t enjoy. Not only does the group experiment with musicianship, they do a good job with words. Lyrics seem to get simpler with artists as time goes on, Come Find the Lion has no problem telling a story and telling it well.

The group hopes to raise money from this album to put towards a summer EP. I haven’t gone through every single track here because there wasn’t much I could pick on. I’m not even sure that I could pick out a least favorite on the album. There are only five songs on this ep and it IS possible for all five to be good- which means that you should probably be heading to a show to pick this up!
