New Music First: Letterday – The Company We Keep

letterdayIf I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times, Massachusetts must put something in the water to turn out as many great musicians as they do. Whether it’s the hardcore kings in Death Before Dishonor, the brocore skills of Four Year Strong, The screamo talent of Therefore I am, or, and this is probably a new one for most of you, the sweet and catchy pop punk sounds of Letterday.

Who is Letterday you ask? Only the next set of rising stars in the Boston area. After catching them earlier this week playing alongside our good friends in Nemes, I couldn’t help but find myself humming along to their sound the very next day. Now, I know a lot of you are probably thinking that the scene of pop/punk rock is a little flooded at the moment, but trust me, after hearing these guys, your mind will change. You see, some bands have the looks and a bit of the sound that you need for a career. This gets a lot of exposure right away and they blow up then burn out. However, Letterday is a bit different. Letterday is like a drug. Sure, it enters you through your ears, but it affects your whole body. There’s a lightness in your step and a grin on your face. It’s serious music with serious affects on the listener and really, that’s what this scene needs more than anything right now.
