Reel Big Fish LIVE REPORT!

Boston got rude on Tuesday July 7th, and this time it wasn’t because the Red Sox lost. Reel Big Fish and co-headliners The English Beat made their way to the House of Blues across from Fenway Park.

The English Beat warmed the crowd with the smooth two tone sound of “Rough Rider”, starting their set off with a chilled atmosphere. Each song brought the crowd in closer and the audience moved into a frenzy of skanking and swaying. Their cover of Smokey Robinson’s “Tears of a
Clown” was a crowd favorite. Finally, they dubbed their way into their final song, “Jackpot”.

Then, came the tension as the crowd longed for Reel Big Fish to take the stage. And unlike any show I’ve ever been to, the crowd started to beat on the barrier, shouting for the band to hurry up and take the stage.

And the band didnt disappoint, playing favorites including “Where Have You Been?”, “Beer”, and even playing a few tracks off their January 2009 covers album, “Fame, Fortune, and Fornication” including my personal favorite, “Brown Eyed Girl”.

After a roaring demand for an encore, the band returned to the stage, middle fingers blazing and sang an adorably obscene ditty known as the “F U Authority Song”, then played some crowd participation time with their infamous crowd pleaser, “Masters Of All Musical Styles”, which
for those of you who haven’t gotten the pleasure to see the band live, they take the last song they played and play it in different genres including Country Western, Punk Rock, Disco, and Death Metal.

And as to everyone’s pleasure, they ended the night with a bang playing everyone’s favorite, “Sell Out”. The crowd was a mass of dancing and fist pumps, showing that after 17 years of music, they
still have it in them.

So, when this tour reaches your city, be sure to make your way out. After all, everyone needs a little rudeness in their life.
