Jack White gives College Lecture

According to NME, the University Philosophical Society at Dublin, Ireland’s Trinity College hosted a thoughtful chat with Jack White last night. The White Stripes/Raconteurs/Dead Weather singer/guitarist was there to receive an honorary patronage from the society (watch him accept the honor here). The talk touched on one of White’s favorite topics: authenticity.

But instead of espousing the same old notions of classic rock realness, White’s take sounds refreshingly open-minded. NME quotes him as saying, “I don’t know if Bob Dylan and Tom Waits are as authentic as I think they are. Perhaps they’re not…Sometimes you start thinking that maybe Britney Spears or someone like that who’s doing exactly what they want to do in the way that they best know how, is more authentic than any of those people you could mention.”

He also claimed to have hidden 100 EPs made by his early band the Upholsterers inside of pieces of furniture, which sounds a lot like the type of thing Dylan would say in his wily 1960s press conference prime.
