Velvet Underground to make rare appearance

One-time Velvet Underground cohorts Lou Reed, Maureen Tucker, and Doug Yule are set to appear in the same room together– something that doesn’t happen very often. (But where’s John Cale?– Ed.) The three will talk about VU on December 8 at the New York Public Library as part of their “Live from the NYPL” series. (Via Billboard.)

Rolling Stone vet David Fricke will moderate the discussion, which is tied to the release of the new coffee table book The Velvet Underground: New York Art (which looks pretty).

In other Reed news, the rock great recently performed alongside Joan Baez, Suzanne Vega, and opera singer Renée Fleming in Prague as part of a celebration of the 20th anniversary of Czechoslovakia’s peaceful Velvet Revolution. The performance was aired on Czech TV. Check out Reed and Fleming doing Reed’s “Perfect Day” below. (Thanks to Klara for the heads up.) Worth watching just to see the comical contrast between Lou’s grumble and Fleming’s wail.
