Contenders were revealed in a primetime concert hosted by LL Cool J and featuring the comedy of Smokey Robinson (“Don’t worry Taylor, Kanye’s not here.”). As expected, Gaga, Black Eyed Peas, Swift, and Beyoncé made out well (they’re all up for Album Of The Year along with Dave Matthews Band for their worst album to date). Also expected: most categories’ nominations are equal parts LOLz and Zzzz. But good luck MGMT and Silversun Pickups on your Best New Artist nods! (MGMT’s “Kids” is also up for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals, competing with a live version of a 33-year-old Hall & Oates hit.) Check the full list here. The 52nd annual event airs 1/31 on CBS and I gotta feeling that there will be a Michael Jackson tribute.
