Girl Talk Reissue

The ADD mash-up monster Greg Gillis, known to the world as Girl Talk, made his name with the 2006 album Night Ripper, a marathon of chopped-up pop samples that moved so quickly between songs and genres that we all had to struggle to keep up. On December 8, Illegal Art will issue Night Ripper on vinyl for the first time (180-gram double LPs, that is), so we’ll really be able to hear every sonic detail of that Biggie Smalls/Elton John meeting of the minds.

Fat-walleted, charity-minded Girl Talk fans, take note: Illegal Art will also sell a limited-edition pink vinyl version of that double-LP reissue for $100. The money will go to benefit mycharity: water, a nonprofit that builds wells to provide clean drinking water.

That’s not the only Girl Talk reissue coming out, either. Before Night Ripper, Girl Talk released two other sample-patchwork albums, 2002’s Secret Diary and 2003’s Unstoppable. Illegal Art is making both albums available from its website, and you’ll be able to pay what you want for both. Unstoppable is already up for sale, and Secret Diary will go up on January 5.

Girl Talk also has a few of his sweaty, bacchanalian live shows coming up. After a New Years Eve gig in Chicago, he’ll spend January touring Australia and New Zealand. Those dates are below.
