Weezer are back in action

When Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo was injured in an a tour bus accident last month, the band had to cancel the remainder of its tour to allow Cuomo time to recover from lung and spleen injuries. But in a new blog post on Weezer’s website, the band has announced that Cuomo has received “a clean bill of health” from his doctors, and Weezer’s now ready to get back to the business of playing shows.

The first post-crash Weezer concert will go down on January 20– next Wednesday– at Florida State University in Tallahassee. FSU won a T-Mobile contest to get the show, and Weezer’s blog post promises “some surprises in store and a very special DJ guest opening up.” Weezer’s MySpace has already named that special guest DJ: Stumpy hip-hop mogul and Cuomo collaborator Jermaine Dupri. Money ain’t a thang! After the Tallahassee show, the band has no more dates scheduled until they play New Jersey’s Bamboozle Festival on May 2.

That same blog post also mentions that Weezer’s Pinkerton deluxe reissue is nearing completion, as is an odds-and-ends collection called Odds and Ends. Also, Universal has released a Rarities Edition of its Blue Album reissue– basically, the bonus disc for the double-disc reissue of self-titled Weezer debut, sold on its own without the original album.

And finally, the post mentions that the band has been at work on “weezifying a cover tune for an upcoming major motion picture soundtrack, which shall remain nameless for now.” Except that the band has already spilled the beans on what the major motion picture will be. This past Tuesday, Cuomo Twittered this: “Just got to the studio…working on the SHREK song!!!!” Mystery solved!
