Myspace and Toyota Team Up

Competition Offers Unsigned Artists the Opportunity to Win a Record Deal

MySpace, in partnership with Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., is excited to announce the official kickoff of Toyota Music Rock the Space II – a follow-up to last year’s incredibly popular competition that encourages unsigned bands and solo artists to submit an original song for the opportunity to score a recording contract with MySpace Records.

Beginning today through June 7, aspiring artists across the country will have the opportunity to win the chance of a lifetime by visiting Toyota’s MySpace Music profile for submission details and contest rules (http://www.myspace.com/toyotamusic). To enter the Toyota Music Rock The Space II competition, artists must submit an original MP3 demo. All entrants will be provided with the tools to create viral demo tape music widgets with an easy-to-embed code to help them submit and spread their music across MySpace, other social sites and the Web. MySpace users can share in the experience by adding the demo tape music widgets to their profiles and posting comments on the Toyota Music profile.

Once the submission period has ended on June 7, a panel of industry professionals and A&R executives will select ten semifinalists who will be featured prominently on the Toyota Music profile, and the MySpace community will vote to narrow the pool to five finalists. New this year, the MySpace community will also have the opportunity to vote for a fan favorite to be the sixth finalist for consideration. All finalists will receive a media allocation to promote themselves with My Ads targeted advertising throughout MySpace – and the fans will vote to pick the winner.

The Toyota Music Rock The Space II winner will be announced in September. In addition to a recording contract, the winner will receive a $10,000 musical instrument prize package provided by Fender, the world’s leading guitar manufacturer.

Last year, out of more than 19,000 submissions, the MySpace community chose Justin Allen, Will Shuck, Stew Richmond, Jason Lopez and Bill Galvin of electro-pop/rock band Call the Cops (http://www.myspace.com/callthecops) as their favorite band and the winners of Rock The Space. Since then the band has been hard at work writing and recording their very first album (due out this summer). Call the Cops will be playing the Warped Tour in June.
