Axl Rose And His Former Manager Do Not Get Along, At All

Axl Rose has sued Irving Azoff, his former manager, for $5 million, claiming that Azoff deliberately sabotaged Guns n’ Roses in order to force Rose to reunite with the band’s original members. Wow. And there’s more: Azoff called Axl a name Axl NEVER likes to be called.

First, the suit: technically, it’s a countersuit responding to Azoff’s $1.9 million suit filed in March, in which Azoff claims that he’s owed salary monies that have yet to be paid.

As anyone that is familiar with Axl knows, he doesn’t take kindly to being under attack. So this week he filed a substantial countersuit, one that came with a boatload of jaw-dropping accusations.

Rose claims that Azoff was responsible for ‘devising and implementing a secret plan to set up Rose and the band for failure so that Rose would have no choice but to reunite with the original Guns N’ Roses’ members.‘

Part of that ‘plan’? Intentionally fumbling the promotional activities for Chinese Democracy, which would explain why sales were relatively low, why Axl made no promotional appearances surrounding the release, and why there was no tour.

Azoff’s scheme, the suit claims, was for Axl to recognize the futility of touring with his current lineup and agree to a reunion with the classic Guns players. Axl, of course, didn’t bite.

Most intriguing is the name calling angle to the affair. When Azoff filed his suit in March, he used Axl’s former legal name William Bailey, which, as Rose points out, carries significant emotional baggage for him. The latest statement from Azoff? “‘On advice of counsel I cannot respond at this time, but will discuss in my upcoming book, ‘My Life With William Bill Bailey.’”

This court battle is going to be awesome.
