Michael Jackson To Be Inducted Into Apollo Hall Of Fame

The world’s not done honoring Michael Jackson. The iconic pop star will be posthumously inducted into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame on June 14. Aretha Franklin will also be inducted during the Apollo Theatre’s Annual Spring Benefit, hosted this year by Jamie Foxx.

Jackson and his siblings (as the Jackson 5) actually won the Apollo Theatre’s amateur night in 1967 and the King of Pop’s impressive career spawned from there. According to Billboard, Gladys Knight was so impressed by that performance that she brought the group to the attention of Berry Gordy, head of Motown, who signed them a year later.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony with be presented with the Ruby Dee & Ossie Davis Arts and Humanitarian Award that evening as well. Past inductees to the Hall of Fame include Quincy Jones, James Brown, Ella Fitzgerald and Smokey Robinson. The Apollo Theatre also recently added a Walk of Fame to honor these past inductees with plaques.
