Lady Gaga Finishes New Album

It looks like Lady Gaga has finished recording her next record. In her recent cover interview with Rolling Stone, the ubiquitous pop star said the album will come out early next year and that she plans to announce its title at midnight on New Year’s Eve. Of course, in typical Gaga fashion, this announcement will be an event unto itself.

“I think I’m gonna get the album title tattooed on me and put out the photo,” she told Rolling Stone. “I’ve been working on it for months now, and I feel very strongly that it’s finished right now. It came so quickly. Some artists take years; I don’t. I write music every day.”

Gaga also discussed the subject matter of the new record, which apparently veers away from tracks about fame to political numbers tinged with anger. She specifically plans to address the issues of gays in the military, telling the magazine, “Why are we still talking about ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’? It’s like, what fucking year is it? It makes me crazy! And I have been for three years baking cakes — and now I’m going to bake a cake that has a bitter jelly. The message of the new music is now more bitter than it was before. Because the sweeter the cake, the more bitter the jelly can be.”

We’re not sure how the cake metaphor works in there, but surely fans will be excited to get their little monster paws on what will be Gaga’s fourth album in four years. Plus, the more songs she has, the more nine-minute videos she can release.

For those itching to hear what this new material might sound like, you’re potentially in luck. A clearly unfinished Gaga song called “Changing Skies” leaked this morning, but there’s no word on whether it’s a new track or just an unreleased old song.
