T.I. May Return to Prison

Having been arrested on drug charges in Los Angeles early yesterday, T.I. now must return to Atlanta and face a judge to determine whether the incident was a violation of the rapper’s parole. If so, he may have to return to prison just seven months after he was released. “It’s almost certain [T.I. will] end up appearing before the court here,” Don Samuel, one of T.I.’s lawyers, told the Atlantic Journal-Constitution . But without knowing all the facts, it’s premature to speculate what the court is likely to do.” T.I. and his wife Tameka “Tiny” Cottle were charged with possession of controlled substances after the pair were pulled over in their car, and police smelled marijuana. A search turned up methamphetamines in the form of pills that “resembled Ecstasy,” a police spokesperson said.

As part of T.I.’s plea deal stemming from his 2007 arrest on federal weapons charges, the rapper was sentenced to a year in prison — he ultimately spent seven months behind bars — but put on probation until 2013. He was specifically ordered not to use any controlled substances, or even frequent places where drug activity might be taking place. Although there were other passengers in the car, only T.I. and Tiny were arrested. The charges, however, have yet to be officially filed, so it’s unclear whether the rapper will be promoting his new album, King Uncaged, or returning to prison.

T.I. has remained quiet since the arrest, but Tiny checked in yesterday on Twitter: “Jus wanted 2say thank u 2every1 dats been leaving encouraging msgs & prayers! We love u guys :) going 2bed now! So glad 2b n a nice clean bed.”
