Live Report: Jukebox The Ghost

Monday night, sounds like a drag right? Well, not for me. I made the epic (well, not so much) trip up to Louisville, KY to see Jukebox The Ghost tear apart The Vernon Club. The Vernon Club may be the most unique venues I’ve ever been to in all of my concert going days. What appears to be a house on the outside, houses (ha.) not only a bowling alley, but a venue in the basement. If you ever get the chance to see a show in this unique venue, take it.

But, enough about how awesome the place was, the most important thing about Monday evening was clearly the headlining act. First off, if you haven’t picked up a copy of “Everything Under The Sun”, their newest release, close your browser, get in your car, and drive to the nearest record store and pick it up. It is, by far, one of the most infectious albums of 2010 thusfar. That being said, my expectations were clearly high before the show even began. And let me tell you, I wasn’t disapointed in the least.

Ben Thornewill’s stage presence is magnificent at worst. He has a way with connecting with a crowd that most major label artists could take notes on. His fluid movements and connections with his piano, his band, and the audience really make him worth watching the entirety of the show. When the first keyboard tones of “Schizophrenia” rang out, I instantly felt chills run down my spine. Even as a newcomer to this band, I was easily able to join in and enjoy the songs as well as I would be able to with one of my favorite bands. It was not only a treat, but a pleasure to get to see Jukebox The Ghost live.

Long story short, this show was one of my favorites of the year thusfar, and you can catch them on tour for the rest of the fall. If they’re coming to your city/area, be sure not to miss out!
