Bruno Mars has been formally charged with possession of narcotics by the Clark County, Nevada district attorney’s office.
The charges were filed in Las Vegas on Friday. Mars was arrested at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas on September 19th when a bathroom attendant notified police that they had seen Mars wander into a bathroom stall with a bag of white powder. Mars surrendered a small bag filled with 2.6 grams of cocaine, when confronted by the police. Mars is due to court on November 18 and if convicted could face up to 5 years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Bruno’s single, “Just The Way You Are” is currently at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and his debut album, Doo-Wops and Hooligans, is being released tomorrow October 5th. Despite the crime, Mars’ label, Elektra, is standing behind him and they released a statement of support on Friday saying: “We congratulate Bruno Mars on his chart-topping success, and provide him with our full love and support.”
