The Strokes set release date for album

TwentyFourBit points out that the Strokes’ bassist Nikolai Fraiture has confirmed a recently speculated rumor concerning the release date of the Strokes’ fourth full-length by posting on his private Facebook page: “Yes! You read right… March 22nd!! Looking forward to playing the new songs live.” And we have confirmed that yes, it’s true: the fourth Strokes album will come out March 22 in the U.S. via RCA.

Fraiture recently told BBC radio host Zane Lowe, “Sonically, I feel it’s the album which should have been made between Room on Fire and First Impressions of Earth.” The still-untitled LP is said to be ten songs long. The Strokes have announced a handful of tour dates for 2011, including just one U.S. date: March 12 in Las Vegas. Dates below.

In related Strokes news, Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo took to his Twitter recently and linked to a brief, mysterious video of him and Strokes main man Julian Casablancas in the studio together. What this exactly means remains to be seen; in the meantime, you can check out the video below.
