James Shotwell The genius behind “You Light Up My Life,” Joseph Brooks, has died of an apparent suicide in NYC. The award winning songwriter was currently on trial for rape. He was 73. You can view a video of Joseph Brooks and Patti Smith from the 80’s show Kids Are People Too below. Patti Smith performs “You Light Up My Life” during the clip.
