Steel Train cancel two shows

Jack Antonoff, singer for Steel Train, posted a statement on hi health and why they had to cancel their shows on June 11th in Salt Lake City and June 12th in Denver. The band will be hitting the road with Jack’s Mannequin in Ventura, California on June 14. To read Jack’s health statement, click “read more.”

been getting a lot of questions about the past 2 weeks/where i’ve been.. so, here’s what went down (in bullet points)
– started feeling tired and sick at the end of a series of shows in early may. remember, the full album shows? best shows ever, but was feeling oddly broken. only between and after shows that is.
– got home and thought it was the ‘normal home from tour sick/ravaged immune system’ type thing. but… it persisted.
– finally, i went to the doctor on tuesday 5/24. i was so out of it that i fell asleep in the waiting room.. at like 4 in the afternoon. i mean, it was tragic. ha! thought i had mono. ugh. turns out i didn’t. got an x-ray, doctor comes back in tells me i have pneumonia and i have to take medicine… and it’ll get better….. and it’ll get better….
– 2 days later (wasn’t getting better) starting having craziest pains in my right side. like i was being stabbed with every breath.
– went to the ER that night, a bunch of scary stuff happened and i had to spend the night in the ICU. got through that and spent the following 4 days in the hospital.
– finally got out of the hospital, starting eating again (like everything), put the weight back on, and basically sat at home for a week taking IV meds, watching greek, writing songs (its gonna be a dark record) and sitting on a chair thinking about a few specific things. most notably- the direction for the next record and a more formulated theory on marriage (or non marriage, or no marriage till its legal, or having children with friends, not that children and marriage should be linked. obviously another blog coming your way soon…)
– so… that brings us to right now. 1pm on monday. im feeling wwwaaaayyy better, but still not there yet. im writing to you guys from my house in NJ with what is supposed to be my last IV in my arm at the moment. which brings us to the good news and the bad news-
good news: not only am i getting better, but sitting in a chair thinking for weeks has this effect on you that results in wanting to get back to work and fucking kill it. point is-i want to tour NOW.
bad news: my doctors want to me wait a little bit longer before getting back into to the swing of things and they haven’t cleared me to start tour until the 14th. so.. unfortunately we will not be playing the 2 manchester orchestra dates on 6/11 and 6/12. we will however be starting tour on 6/14 in ventura with jacks mannequin and doing every date from there out — and forever. i DESPISE canceling shows, but in this situation i’ve got to listen to what the doctors are telling me. would obviously rather make a full recovery now and not deal with this shit in the future. plus, we love the manchester guys and im sure we’ll find a way to get on the same stage together soon.
ok- thats all. sending love.
jack
