Diablo Cody rewriting “Evil Dead” reboot

An official press release has hit the streets announcing the remake and revitalization of the Evil Dead franchise. We already broke most of the information involved, accept for the newly surface detail that the woman behind JUNO, Diablo Cody, has been hired to do revisions on the film’s script (which was penned by Director Federico ‘Fede’ Alvarez).

The film’s original brain trust of Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Rob Tapert are attached to the film as producers and supposed “guards” of Evil Dead‘s lore.

I’m still excited because I really, really love the original films, but Cody’s participation has got me worried. Normally I wouldn’t be so quick to comment, because if the era of Chris Nolan has taught us anything it that you should never judge someone’s talent until it is displayed, but I have seen Cody’s work and just can’t see her in this universe without it becoming some pop-culture loving romp with a good message and a ton of drag in the second act.

Please Raimi, don’t pull a Spider-Man 3 on us again. My nerdy heart just can’t take it.
