For starters, why the hell are they making another Ice Age movie? Is the creativity in the animation sector of Hollywood so minimal these days that all we can do is rehash characters people stopped caring about two movies ago? Seriously, when was the last time you were excited for an Ice Age film other than the adorable squirrel shorts that air as teasers to the endlessly more lackluster movies? I’m willing to bet you don’t even remember.
Maybe I’m wrong though, maybe there really is an audience for these characters and their completely unbelievable continued existence through Earth’s mysterious past. Maybe their are people who sit at home just waiting for the latest celebrity-voiced cartoon to be released so they can climb into their wood-paneled vans and drive to an early to an early matinee in an attempt to not bankrupt their 4-member family with overpriced tickets and concessions. It’s not likely, but the world is a big place so who knows?
Word broke this morning that Nicki Minaj has joined the aforementioned list of celebrity voices participating in Ice Age: Continental Drift. No word yet on what kind of creature she will voice, but something tells us it will be a motherf*cking monster.
Ice Age: Continental Drift hits theaters in July 2012.
