Michael Sweet returns to Stryper

Boston vocalist Michael Sweet has decided to return to the Christian rock band, Stryper, that he founded back in 1983.

Sweet joined Boston in 2007, after he performed with the rest of the band at a tribute show to former singer Brad Delp, who had committed suicide in the spring of that year. He formally joined the group on tour in 2008, although Stryper continued to release new music, including 2009’s Murder in Pride and last year’s The Covering.

Stryper are reportedly once again in the studio, and have already planned a new tour and set tour dates. Boston, meanwhile, have plans for a new album, but with the departure of Sweet, it is uncertain when it will be completed and released.

Sweet has spoken about his commitment to Stryper and his experience working with Boston:

My focus and my loyalty lies with Stryper, the band that I’ve committed almost thirty years of my life to,” says Sweet. “The guys in Stryper are my brothers and I’m excited about our future together. The music of Boston helped shape who I am as an artist, and the opportunity to be a part of their musical legacy is overwhelming. It’s been an honor to share the stage with them, and a bigger honor to call them my friends.
