“Watch The Throne” Opens At Number One

Though it may come as a shock to none, Jay-Z and Kanye West’s collaborative effort Watch The Throne is officially the number one album in the country. Following yesterday’s news the duo shattered iTunes sales records, their total haul for last week was 436,079 copies (320,893 digital units and 115,186 physical).

This number is impressive, but is still less than half of what Gaga sold in a single week earlier this year. Born This Way managed to move a million units during its debut, but also ran a number of promotions that sold the record at a discounted rate (including the infamous $1 deal on Amazon). Also, West’s last solo record, 2011’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, sold 495,000 copies in its first week AND leaked over a month early.

So was the hype and wait worth it? Are people burnt out on The Throne? Comment below and give us your thoughts.
