“Red State” Hitting Theaters ONE NIGHT ONLY, VOD Out Now

Kevin Smith’s Red State has been making waves in the press since Smith “bought” the film for himself for $20 at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The film is Smith’s first horror movie and has spent the majority of the year being toured around the country, accompanied by Smith, and playing in huge theaters to crowds of 1500+ that paid $60 a ticket (Smith performed Q & As with every screening).

Now that the dust from the film’s tour has settled, Smith’s next wave of DIY distribution has taken effect. Earlier this week, Red State made its’ way onto nearly every VOD (Video On Demand) service imaginable (iTunes, Amazon, Comcast, etc.) and now we know of its’ official theatrical debut.

On September 25, the same day as Reasonable Remakes writer Justin Proper’s birthday, Red State will arrive in theaters for a limited one night only run alongside Smith’s trademark post show Q&A, which will be digitally streamed live from Tarantino’s New Beverly into all of the participating theatres, allowing audience members to interact directly with Smith utilizing Twitter.

We don’t have any idea how much this “event” will cost, but something tells us fans should expect an extra $3-5 charge for access to the Q & A.

UTG has seen Red State and will be releasing our review by the end of the weekend. Stay tuned!
