Get Ready, A “Pinocchio” Prequel Is On The Way

I don’t know how many people saw the box office report this weekend, but Real Steel is once again number one and Fox’s prequel/remake of The Thing failed miserably. You’d think studios would start to realize the hype of remakes, prequels, and sequels is starting to die down, but as you’ll soon learn that seems to be the exact opposite of what is happening in Hollywood these days.

Shawn Levy, AKA the guy who directed battling robots in Real Steel, has been tapped by Fox to direct a prequel to the animated classic Pinnochio. Written by Michael Vukadinovich and tentatively titled The Three Misfortunes of Geppetto, the film is said to be “a fresh way into the Pinocchio story,” which is of course what we’ve all been pining for since the original.

Let’s not shit ourselves: This is a terrible idea that will likely generate a ton of money and, possibly, spur further animated prequels/sequels. I hope that’s not the case, but these days, you never know.

Also, don’t think the original Pinocchio is safe either. Guillermo Del Toro is currently producing a stop-motion version of the classic and Warner Bros. is said to be developing a live action retelling.

All hope is lost. Just accept it and move on.
