MOVIE TRAILER: Shame

Throughout the history of the MPAA, any film given an NC-17 rating had pretty much received the mainstream “kiss of death.” The rating, which restricts entrance to a film to only those above the age of 17, turned away theater owners who rely heavily upon ticket sales from teens to keep the lights on. Luckily we live in the 21st century and the internet has all but killed the idea of “censorship,” so Steve McQueen is taking the rating at full charge with his upcoming release, Shame.

Brandon (Michael Fassbender) is a New Yorker who shuns intimacy with women but feeds his desires with a compulsive addiction to sex. When his wayward younger sister (Carey Mulligan) moves into his apartment stirring memories of their shared painful past, Brandon’s insular life spirals out of control.

The film was written and directed by McQueen, who should probably win a badass of the year award for taking on the rating (which even the riskiest of mainstream directors have broke for).

Shame will be out in limited release before the end of the year. If you can see it and aren’t opposed to a little sex on screen, see it and support a noble cause for the arts. You can view the official trailer below:
