The Mountain Goats have returned with the first new material to emerge since frontman John Darnielle became a father just a few short months ago.

“Thucydides II-58” finds Darnielle returning to his low-fi acoustic roots with a track that’s built on passion and subtlety. You can stream, download, and enjoy the track for yourself, after the jump.

For those wondering, Darnielle has said that he plans to release similar tracks in the future. “Thucydides II-58” first appeared on Twitter, so following The Mountain Goats is probably the best decision you could possibly make today.
