UTG PHOTOS: BORN OF OSIRIS (11/20/11)

A day after my mini-road trip to Pittsburgh, I was back in Cleveland and heading to a show that was on the other end of the music spectrum from the show I shot in Pittsburgh the previous day.  So I found myself less than twenty-four hours later, on Sunday, November 20, back at Peabody’s in Cleveland for some heavy hitters for The Discovery Tour, including Fallen Captive, Ruled By Reason, Veil of Maya, and Born of Osiris.  This was going to be one of the heaviest, hardcore shows I’ve attended in awhile, and I was psyched to hear some new music, and of course observe the mosh pit, which makes watching the offstage antics almost as fun as the onstage ones.

The opening bands got the crowd amped up for Fallen Captive, a Cleveland band bound for big things. This metalcore group set the tone for the night, and after multiple breakdowns intertwined with lots of hardcore screams to get your blood pumping, Jason Dean from Ruled By Reason came out to share the stage with Fallen Captive for one song.  At the end of the set, the crowd got a pleasant surprise as Mike Tata, bassist for Fallen Captive, was hoisted up to the ceiling and positioned himself to play bass upside down for the last song.  Next up was Ruled By Reason, also from Cleveland, who has been on the music scene for a few years now.  Their powerful and varied style of metal in the modern metal scene is a breath of fresh air.  They captivate their audience with hardcore beats, breakdowns, and relentless screams, making their set one of the most energetic.

Next was Veil of Maya, metal group from Chicago, who came to rock the stage.  Their name comes from a George William Russell poem of the same name.  They came out playing hits off their third full length album, [id], which was released on Sumerian Records on April 6, 2010.  As they played hits such as “Unbreakable,” which is also their most recent music video, the crowd dispersed to allow a crazy mosh pit in the center of the venue.  Following Veil of Maya was the headliner of the night, Born of Osiris, also from Illinois.  Their most recent album, The Discovery, was released March 22 on Sumerian Records and hits were played off the current album as well as their first album, A Higher Place.  Their set included epic bass drops, breakdowns, moshing, crowd surfers in abundance, stage dives, and every other crazy antic you would expect at a hardcore metal show.  Check out the photos below for all the wild fun from this tour!
