Dammit, “Top Gun 2” Is Happening

Tom Cruise is amidst a blitz of press for his latest Mission Impossible flick and recently spilt the beans about another sequel that is sure to equally overjoy and piss off the internet.

In a recent interview with MTVNews, Cruise shed a bit of light on the rumors that have been swirling about the possibility of a Top Gun sequel, but mostly just let people know it is in fact a reality in the making. If online stories are correct (and this is a good if), Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, the screenwriters behind ‘Thor’ and ‘X-Men: First Class,’ are writing the script for the sequel, and the original production due of Bruckheimer/Scott is on board as well.

When asked about a Director, Cruise said that no one had been chosen yet, but noted a strong desire to have Tony Scott return to the chair. “I said to Tony I want to make another movie with him. He and I haven’t made a film since Days of Thunder, ” Cruise said. “Tony and I and Jerry, we never thought that we would do it again. Then they started to come to us with these ideas of where it is now. I thought, ‘Wow, that would be … what we could do now.’ ”

We will keep you updated with any and all Top Gun developments, but we still do not understand why another one has to be made. The original is a classic, that is nearly undeniable, but there is no legitimate reason for Cruise to hop in the cockpit once more.
