UTG PHOTOS: iPhonic (12/3/11)

Under The Gun Review recently sent staff photographer Kellie Gannon to see up and coming act iPhonic perform in Cleveland, Ohio. What follows is her review and pictorial of the event. Enjoy!

Attending an iPhonic show is like going to that crazy high school party your parents forbade you from going to… the one that got you grounded for two weeks for attending anyways.  This is basically the same thing, but now partying with these guys is legal (for the most part), encouraged, and expected.  On Saturday, December 3rd I was at Peabody’s again for the iPhonic release show of their Rock N Roll Volume I Mixtape.  There were a handful of local openers, some that caught my eye (and ears) more than others.  Most notably during the course of the evening were Bedroc and Cleveland’s own DJ E-V.

Bedroc is a vibrant hip-hop duo made up of Mike “Brown” Brownyard and Marcel “ML” McCullough, who both hail from Rochester, NY.  This duo, who actually founded Bedroc back in 2009 during their attendance at John Carroll University in Cleveland, OH, has been solid support on multiple sold-out tours over the past year with the likes of Mac Miller, Machine Gun Kelly, Sam Adams, and Wale to name a few.  Bedroc’s most current mixtape, “Bored of Education” was also the name of their Spring 2011 tour.  Upon taking the stage they were met with instant approval and certainly made new fans out of those who haven’t had the opportunity to see them live yet.

Eric Vajda, aka DJ E-V, is a Cleveland native that has in hand in almost everything Cleveland-music related.  Not only is he one of Cleveland’s top DJs, but he has made his name one of the most prominent on Cleveland’s KISS FM, has regular DJ appearances at countless venues around the country, is the official DJ for Mike Posner, the mixtape DJ for Machine Gun Kelly, and the CEO of Leak Jones.  Before iPhonic took the stage, DJ E-V did a twenty minute set during which he mixed current hits, and upon playing Machine Gun Kelly’s newest single, “Wild Boy,” half the venue jumped onstage to dance and party with E-V.

iPhonic was the most anticipated group of the evening.  These boys came out in true iPhonic fashion, chugging bottles of their signature alcohol of choice (straight vodka) and rocking out in their tuxedos with a natural untamed energy.  This was the celebration of the release of their Rock N Roll Volume I Mixtape, presented by DJ E-V, which was dropped on November 25.  They began their set with an intro of their remix of Patrick Stump’s “This City” (which they’ll have a chance to perform live with Patrick Stump, one time only, at the 96.5 Kissmas Show 12/11).  During “Rowdy Boys” towards the end of their set, their onstage bartender set bottles of alcohol on fire, juggled them, and ended with blowing fire across the stage.  iPhonic is a band to keep an eye on, make sure to download their mixtape.  Check out the photos below for all the debauchery and fun from this show!
