STAND-UP TUESDAYS: Will Noonan

Stand-Up Tuesdays is a weekly comedy spotlight written by the wonderfully talented Angie Frissore. Covering both known and unknown comics, Stand-up Tuesdays is your new source for all things funny.

This week, Angie puts a spotlight on Will Noonan and his latest release, ¡Surpriso! If you or your comedy troupe would like to be featured on Stand-Up Tuesdays, please email utgjames@gmail.com.

There’s no doubt that with all of the year-end ‘best of’ lists coming out you’ve got a backlog of great comedy CDs to take in – but set that task aside for a moment and instead consider the debut full-length CD, ¡Surpriso!, by Boston comedian Will Noonan.

I know what you’re thinking – we get it, you’re from Boston. How about giving someone else a chance?

And such was my original plan. My apologies for bringing you a third Boston-related review in as many weeks, but my comedic plans were laid asunder by the somewhat unceremonious release of Noonan’s first CD. Why? Because it’s downright hilarious, and it snuck in under the radar, throwing me for a lovely surprise loop.

Will Noonan is the host of “The Lineup” onTauntr.com and was previously a semifinalist in the Boston Comedy Festival. He has been featured on MTV’s “My F’N MTV” and on Sirius XM Radio, and is a staple of the New England comedy scene.

Recorded at Great Scott in Allston, MA, ¡Surpriso! features Noonan dishing about his family history, living in Boston, and sleeping with a ringtone.

“No one ever cops to the uncool part of their heritage,” Noonan vents. “You never hear anyone say, ‘Yeah, I’m a little gay on my father’s side.’”

Perhaps its Noonan’s past as a karaoke host that lends itself to his stage presence – or, perhaps it’s just that the dude is hilarious. Whatever the cause, Noonan’s humor is simply effortless, and he masterfully compensates for any unplanned awkwardness.

“I almost fell on that one,” he quips, after a joke about having sex with a prostitute for charity. “It’s the AIDS.”

Having been a fan of Noonan’s for a couple of years, I was delighted to hear a massive amount of new material on the CD as well as the inclusion of some time-tested favorites.  Noonan’s spot-on impressions of various Boston accents (as well as the Aussies) almost had me laughing so hard I ruined my pants.

Expect to see a whole lot more of Will Noonan in the near future as he’s definitely a talent that is poised to take over comedy. Pick up ¡Surpriso! today over at iTunes for a mere $9.99 and expand your comedic horizons instantly!
