Jason Richardson Speaks Out About Being Fired From Born Of Osiris

Guitarist Jason Richardson, formerly of Born Of Osiris, has revealed the reasoning behind his departure from the band. He is currently playing in Chelsea Grin and is definitely happier in that environment.

Please read Jason’s statement below and let us know how you feel about these events.

“Just to clarify to everyone I did NOT quit Born of Osiris, I would have never been able to bring myself to do such a thing no matter how much tension was between us. All of those dudes were essentially my family, I lived in the same house as them for over 2 years. This was by no means at all my decision(not that I was involved in the decision in any way shape or form lol). I have been fired from the band because I, “don’t agree with the way they want to live their lives” and “it felt like their dad was in the band.

So instead of confronting me about my endlessness bitching about their excessive drinking and assorted drug abuse they decided that calling me at 130 in the morning 4 days before christmas while I’m home visiting family to tell me that all of my belongings from the new BOO house were in my trailer on the way to me in VA was the professional way to handle it. So i can say with pride that I will NEVER play another note on stage with the group of cowards that is Born of Osiris.

I don’t give a fuck what they think of me for putting their personal stuff out there, I want everyone to see them for who they really are. I’m just happy the truth finally came out and now I know what truly matters to them and it is NOT putting out albums like The Discovery.

On another note I will continuing the rest of my musical endeavors with Chelsea Grin, as we are already really great friends and with the recent loss of their guitar player we were able to make the best out of two very shitty situations.

I will be involved with the writing process of their next release which is supposed to be dropped before warped tour this summer. You guys heard how much a higher place sucked and what came after it, so get ready for some of the sickest CG you’ve ever heard!”

lol and everyone was bitchng at jason last night when BOO announced he’d “left the band”, now i feel bad that i even listen to them because of how they got rid of jason. Not everyone can shred like him

  2. Tdm2601 says:

Not like I know the whole bacstory, but the way they let him go seems really low. I saw him at a show and thought he was one of the most impressive younger guitarists I’d ever seen. I guess ill have to check out CG in the future.

  3. Allen says:

Gotta give props to Jason. To be honest, BOO would never have gotten to the amount of technicality in their playing/music if it wasn’t for Jason and his skills and personality. The only reason The Discovery is good IS because of Jason only. He pushed Lee to be a better player as a guitarist. A Higher Place sucked, and along came Jason where he changed the game. Lee wouldn’t be using John Petrucci guitars or even soloing on an album if it weren’t for Jason.
Jason, you’re the man. The amount of courage and integrity you have to stick up for your beliefs is admirable. You’re a way better musician than all the other cowards in Born Of Osiris. Those guys are dicks off stage too. They suck without you bro. I really use to be into BOO mainly because of Jason Richardson, but now, I honestly have no respect for Born Of Osiris as musicians or as people anymore. Keep shredding man. Can’t wait to hear the new Chelsea Grin stuff bro!

  4. no one says:

Ought to just leave it between him and the band…

  5. Abdul says:

People should grow up and solve their problems by themselves instead of posting them on the internet and trying to draw other peoples sympathy. This is a good example of whats wrong with this country/world.

  6. Grant says:

Damn that’s shitty, A higher place did suck but I liked the discovery, I’m sad to hear that ended on such a sour note but stoked to see jason come into chelsea grin. Looking forward to some sick shit.

  7. Andrew Gonzalez says:

If they’re going to lie and say he quit the band, and people are curious and want to know the truth, he has the right to put this up on the internet. People probably want to know what happened, and if they cared about how he told people(and his story is true) then they wouldn’t have kicked him out at 1:30 in the morning. It’s not professional, and sure isn’t mature. If this story is true, and they could do something that fucked up, they must be doing drugs and drinking as much alcohol that would ruin the bands performances for him to be a “dad.” People saying not to bitch on the internet, you know if this was you that if someone asked you would probably do the same thing. It’s not like he’s talking pure shit about them, just spreading the truth.

  8. There’s two ides to every story, but Jason seems to be offering valid points, if that’s really how things happened. To not make the decision after discussing it with him, but instead packing his things up and saying “hey, you’re out.” is a rather cowardice move. At the same time, saying “I don’t give a fuck what you think about me” is a little unprofessional, and honestly a bit childish. I wish Jason well, though. He’s an excellent musician.

  9. Peer says:

a higher place was a decent album… and sorry to say all the songs you wrote on the discovery were not so good..

  10. BaldTacos says:

I honestly know how this feels. It was kind of backwards from his situation. Everyone in the band was edge but me and I rarely drank or even did drugs but I got let go just days before a show with Parkway Drive and I got the boot. Sucks to hear BOO is a bunch of ass hats. Keep it brutal.

  11. Anonymous says:

Some one has to have a handle on thier band, some one needs to have a level head, props to you brother. that was gutless

  12. Gu Me says:

I think clarifying what happend is really a great thing. Every fan should know what happened, instead of leaving them in questions.

  13. Mike says:

I think we would all prove to be incredibly naive to disregard certain variables and situations that come with being in a band as big as Born Of Osiris. your dealing with a group of 6 young guys in interesting and privileged positons. what it comes down to is that there’s always two sides to every story like this, im sure like most situations like this, certain steps could have been made to prevent this from happening but the wrong words and actions were used. I wish nothing but good luck to Jason and the rest of the guys from BOO. obviously wasn’t the right place and time in their lives

  14. I don’t care for CG but if Jason is gonna be on it, then I’ll give them a listen.

  15. you guys are all kids; once you grow up, go outside, and live outside of your comfort zone, you will understand. What I’m saying is, its different to have band mates you play with, and band mates you live with and do everything else with….

  16. Krumble says:

You’re an idiot, he wasn’t bitching he was pointing out and clarifying the he didnt leave the band he was kicked out i wouldn’t want people thinking that either, if anything your the one whos bitching on the internet, you’re whats wrong with it

  17. the abydos shelter says:

jason you`re the men …Boo will never be better than the last album i think ! but why chelsea grin ? your skills are a way to good for them

  18. I can see why there would be some friction, and why something should have been done about it.  But they handled it quite childishly themselves.

  19. jessebgrind says:

I’m sure jason is trying to stop boo fans from lipping him online and let him live his life. theirs always fan controversy over these things and honestly I’m a bigger fan of boo then cg but i gotta say if i got the boot id be playing music with cg as well

  20. talent follower says:

Born of Osiris will fade out very fast with out Jason the technician that was the life force behind the band. Never was too much of a fan of cf but after hearing the news I’ve been converted in an instant.

  21. Løkmannen says:

I love all of the three albums they have released, but the third one is different. I think the next BOO album is going to be more like the older stuff. Either that, or they will continue with what Jason changed.

  22. Jaymorris says:

Without Jason, BOO and The Discovery wouldn’t have been as good as it was. A Higher Place was an insult, i left a post about my thoughts on BOO’s wall, and they said ‘None of us in the band have a drug problem’. Watch the BOO Cribs video. Baked. He is gunna be sick in CG. If he can make The Discovery sound so good, he will do the same with CG.

  23. The Watcher says:

Review the history of the band. 4 (5 counting Tosin Abasi) guiartists in about as many years.  Rosecrance (an earlier name for the band and a song written by Cameron I believe) is a rehab facility where 1 (or more) members spent some time.  The band couldn’t go to Canada on tour 2 times due to pending legal issues from substance abuse (alcohol is a substance that gets abused) and a trip to the ER prior to the last tour – probably substance related as no one has any broken bones or gun shot wounds etc.   The BOO Cribs video has some pretty choice party scenes in it, I saw another where they were doing flips trying to kick a bag of wine IN THE HOUSE, no wonder they had to move.   This info is all in the public domain if you’ve been following the band for a period of time.  So one of the band wants the partying reigned in (ha A New Reign) so they don’t stay in that ‘Higher Place’.  The Discovery is that sometimes people get pushed away for speaking up when they see something that needs to be fixed.

XIV and Behold, written fully in guitar pro by Jason. The brains are obvious.

  26. Weasel901609 says:

i see it like this: they abuse drugs, he tried to be responsible, that didn’t work out for the band, band gets angry, kicks him out.
Always been a supporter of BOO but you cant let drugs or anything get in between a band. you’ll just fall apart. Jason was obviously a great Pre-addition to the band but i guess its what the band wants in the end i suppose. Good luck to Jason and all of BOO. No respect lost but defiantly considering listening to Chelsea Grin more now.

  27. Iskatebaker07 says:

When did he post this…? I saw BOO play in December 2011 at Greene ST Greensboro NC and Jason was there. He and the rest of the band signed my iPod. So I’m a little confused…

  28. Iskatebaker07 says:

And btw… The New Reign and A Higher Place was fucking incredible.

  29. Idivinez says:

it’s bad on BOO’s part to fire you like that and over a situation like that but honestly The Discovery was a huge drift away from what BOO is and I didn’t like it as much as A Higher Place or The New Reign. Jason says “a higher place sucked” although before he joined the band he stated he was a big fan which probably means he liked it. This just makes Jason look like a whiny bitch. I’m not for BOO’s decision or Jason’s post both have their wrongs. And by the way, if BOO didn’t like you adding more technicality and shred into their music why the fuck would Chelsea Grin. They are just generic deathcore lol. Well goodluck anyways.

  30. Zac Eaton says:

Alright. I’m a little confused… I just saw BOO play at Greensboro NC December 3, 2011 and Jason was there… It’s February now. When did he write this post because like I said he was there and he played with the band and the whole band signed my iPod…

And BTW BOO will always be BOO with or without Jason. The New Reign and A Higher Place were both fucking incredible. I’m upset he left but I’m sure there were reasons us people don’t know. So don’t get upset.. We don’t know the whole story. But anyway get me back about when he posted this…

    -Zac.

  31. Carlosq9 says:

While Jason’s statements makes BOO sound really bad, I will not be a hater just because of it. I gotta admit that in my opinion Jason is great and the reason I got back to BOO and been so into them lately could be because of him, at least I love his playing. Anyways I dk if Jason could of pushed everyone to be that creative but,the truth is that the other member’s of BOO still have potential, without them the discovery wouldn’t have come to be what it is. So this is sad news but is too early to say I hate BOO or BOO will suck. As for now I will still be considering BOO and blasting the discovery but also keeping an eye on Chelsea Grim. For some reason I will still feel like watching BOO at warped tour…. sadly sometimes artist can be ass wholes but it doesn’t changes the fact that they are good musicians, but still we can’t start speaking without knowing for sure how things are and happened. I am aware that Jason thought Lee many things but still….

  32. Seanborlin says:

Wise decision man. you’re a fucking genius and I didn’t know wall this went on within the band. and also, I LOVE CHELSEA GRIN. and an album with you in it?? holy shit.. can’t wait!

  33. KevX) says:

Jason your the stuff man you and CG will go far it was an honor to meet you and shake your hand at The Warped Tour.KEEP ROCKING MAN!
