Review: SHOWYOURTEETH – World Denier

Artist: SHOWYOURTEETH
Album: World Denier
Genre: Metal/Hardcore
Label: Let It Burn Records

For their second album the Austrian five-piece SHOWYOURTEETH (who I wil now refer to as “Show Your Teeth”) have constructed one hell of an album. World Denier is packed with racing guitars, teeth rattling bass lines, thunderous drums and guttural shouts. The album sets a furious pace that only accelerates with each progressing track.

The album opens with the title track, “World Denier.” While being the shortest track on the album, clocking in at only a little over a minute, it is also the softest; with the band’s front man Micheal Salem’s vocals heard far off while a simple guitar riff and subtle drum beat accompany him. The album begins its vicious sonic assault with “Trapped Sovereigns” which sets the pace for the rest of the album.

Avoiding being pigeon holed as generic metal band Show Your Teeth color outside of the lines of the typical template. The best example of this can be seen in “Erase Me” where the band utilizes dueling vocals between the guttural barks of Salem and the more melodic, clean vocals of Martin Gyenge, one of the band’s guitarists. The track also features some of the albums most enjoyable guitar riffs.

The album ends with the explosive “Shipwrecked.” Holding nothing back the band barrels through the track barely slowing down only to let Salem do vocal acrobatics; beginning in melodic tones before leaping into his familiar guttural barks over and over again, each time increasing the tracks furious pace.

World Denier is everything anyone could ever want in a metal album; it’s fast, it’s vicious and it causes you to inevitably start banging your head.

Score: 7/10
