UTG INTERVIEW: Lil’ Twist

Young Money has announced plans to release over a dozen albums this year, but few are as anticipated as the March 20 release of Lil Twist’s debut album, Don’t Get It Twisted. Blending heavy influence from Lil Wayne, with dashes of pop sensibilities and youth, Twist carves a niche all his own in the hippo scene and we could not be more excited to hear what his debut has in store.

Earlier this month UTG had the opportunity to talk to Lil Twist before the Boston stop of his current tour with Tyga to dices his album, upcoming mixtures, and plan for the future. Click past the jump to read what Twist had to say.

UTG: Your debut album drops on March 20, but we have heard talk of a new mixture arriving beforehand. Is that true?

TWIST: Yea man, Don’t Get It Twisted arrives March twentieth and I do have plans to release a mixture, but right now it’s not quite done. The album is tho, so however it comes it comes.

UTG: As a tie-in to that, you released a mixtape with Khalil in February entitled 3 Weeks In Miami and have since hinted at a sequel. Is that that still the plan?

TWIST: Yea, me and Khalil are going to work on part 2 of 3 weeks in Miami once we get back to Miami.

UTG: Even though Don’t Get It Twitsted is technically your debut album, you already have a large catalog of material. What are you hoping people get with this release that they have not heard before?

TWIST: I hope people just open their ears and listen because I am saying a lot of different things with this album. It’s very versatile and very different. I grew up on this album. It’s amazing.

UTG: You have already released four singles off the album and it has yet to hit shelves. How many more do you plan to release in the future?

TWIST: Every song is a hit. I am going to drop one more before the record and then I got a killer ready for after.

UTG: Can you tell us which single is arriving before the album?

TWIST: Next single is entitled “Flowers” and it features Lil Wayne and Chris Brown. Video on the way too.

UTG: We are still near the beginning of the Careless World Tour and really, the start of a big year of touring for you overall. How have things been going so far?

TWIST: I love the Careless World Tour. My brother (Tyga) brought me out here, and the fans have been crazy, giving me lots of feedback. They’re excited for Don’t Get It Twisted.

UTG: There is an abundance of young rapper fighting for attention right now. What do you think it is about your music that makes so many gravitate towards you?

TWIST: I’m different. I got swag and I’m very different from everyone else and I love that about myself, and I love that people recognize that.

UTG: Post the release of Don’t Get It Twisted, what plans do you have for the rest of the year?

TWIST: Selling records and going on the Don’t Get It Twisted Tour. I’m excited to see my fan and really get to work,

UTG: When will your headlining tour begin?

TWIST: We do not have a set date, but shortly after the album drops. I’m still on the Careless World Tour into April, so probably after that. Never gonna stop.

UTG: Our site has always tried to blend the worlds of rock and hiphop, which is something Young Money has begun doing recently with the signing of Limp Bizkit. Lil Wayne is on board already so I must ask: Can we expect a Lil Twist and Limp Bizkit collaboration in the future?

TWIST: Definitely! Fred Durst is so cool, he was just at the studio and it was amazing. He’s cool rocker, I’m a young rockstar, and that’s going to be a great collaboration.

UTG: It seems like he will be working with a lot of Young Money this year.

TWIST: …And I’m going to make sure I am one of the first.

UTG: Before we go, do you have any last thoughts?

TWIST: Shoutout to team Twist. I love you guys, you know that. Team Twist been holding it down for longest time and this is our year. Don’t Get It Twisted
