HOLY SH!T: It Looks Like KHAN is the “Star Trek 2” Villain

Trekkies everywhere, rejoice! Rumor are flooding the blogosphere today that UK actor Bennedict Cumberbatch has been confirmed as Khan for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek 2.

News of Cumberbatch’s casting is not new, we’ve known that he is portraying the villain in ST2 for month, but it’s which villain he’ll be that is getting us too excited to type properly. According to TrekMovie:

TrekMovie has confirmed this with a number of sources so we no longer consider it to be a rumor. Khan is back in 2013, however sources indicate that the film is not a rehash of “Space Seed,” the original Star Trek episode where Kirk and crew first encounter the genetic superman from the past.

Fans and critics have long considered Ricardo Montalban’s portrayal of Khan in Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan as timeless, so it will be interesting to see how Abrams updates the character for his sequel. No word yet on plot, it could even be a complete reworking of Wrath for all we know, so it’s clear many more spoilers will travel down the pipeline in coming months. Until then, click past the jump and checkout a badass set photo of Cumberbatch getting put in his place by Spock.
