The good news continues to roll in for Marvel, Disney, Joss Whedon, and everyone else involved with The Avengers. As of this morning, the superhero epic became the fastest film to gross $400 million domestically after only 14 days of release. The previous record of 18 days was held by The Dark Knight.
That’s not all. On the worldwide market, Avengers has officially passed Toy Story 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest to become the #6 highest-grossing film of all time and the highest-grossing Disney release ever.
Even with Battleship and The Dictator opening this weekend, many are speculating Avengers could still come out on top. The film added $10.6 million internationally and $6.2 million domestically last night for a Thursday total of $16.8 million. To date, the film has earned $668.7 million overseas and $402 million in North America for a global total of $1.070 billion.
