DAMMIT: Dr. Acula Put On Their Serious Face, Release New Song

Victory Records’ Dr. Acula have released the first song off their forthcoming album. Entitled “Nation,” the track finds the group’s vocalists (because Victory loves bands with two vocalists) switching lines about the state of the nation and how everyone needs to band together while doing their best to scream worse than one another. You can stream the track after the jump.

While I can appreciate an artist trying to take a more serious tone with their music, Dr. Acula could not have fallen more flat on their faces with this track. The reason they were signed, hell, the only reason they rose to prominence during the Myspace era in the first place was their tongue-in-cheek approach to the world of party/metal/breakdown-core that at the time was only just beginning to break onto the mainstream. That lead to their first record deal, which allowed for an album of reworked classics and a few new tracks, and eventually paved the way for their current deal with Victory. “Nation” is just another example of a band signed for a gimmick trying far too hard to sound like honest musicians, and it’s a shitty one at that.

If want you to be taken seriously, just be yourselves to the best of you abilities. Your fans have followed your ever-changing lineup of 5-7 dudes for at least half a decade at this point, and they’re going to see right through any new age, social-awareness bullshit you try to inject into your material. Do not underestimate them.

Lyrics:

Just in time for a decade of heresy. A nation born on pain and disbelief. We are a permanent structure. One nation over god. Hunger struck and beaten down to the ground. Find the strength to pull them down. Mistreated ashamed and bound. Find the strength to pull them down. Your structures your cross fucking belong to us. When 7 trumpets sound, find the strength to pull them down. Crawling at a rapid rate well pull this monster down. Showing a brand new way, state by state well change today . Become a part of this become a soldier. Nation rise up and show them. Become a hero, become a villain. Nation rise up and show them. Go forth, go strong, go quickly. Get it done get back to us. We need you all right now. With strength in numbers we can never fall down. Go forth, go strong, go quickly. Get it done get back to us. We need you all right now. With strength in numbers we can never fall down. I can remember when I felt like I belonged to nothing. I remember, when I felt like I belonged to nothing. And no one would notice if I were here or not to be stronger but just to stay alive and well If you wanna make history. Stay home do nothing. Don’t be part of the team.

If youre gonna name your band Dr. Acula you should probably just stick to your gimmick of crappy “partycore” music, because you will never be taken seriously. Plus your lyrics are as boring and uncreative as ever. Ill stick with I Am Abomination, that band has musical talent and lyrical talent that this band will never show.
