REVIEW: Late Night Habit – Nostalgia

Artist: Late Night Habit
Album: Nostalgia
Genre: Pop Rock
Label: Unsigned

It’s not hard to dig a summertime pop rock release. After all, it’s the perfect time to dive into those feelings of fun, love, relaxation, and happiness. The typical layout of these sorts of songs comes from acoustic guitar-laden melodies coupled with soaring vocals that are occasionally met with some soothing harmonization. This is the blueprint that Late Night Habit follows with their latest ep, Nostalgia.

It’s undeniable to believe that these songs would be an easy fit to be included in any MTV network show, Nostalgia definitely has that commercial appeal that can help the band to serenade its way into the hearts of thousands. Whether it’s because of somber ballads like “Your Last Song” or upbeat tunes like “The Jersey Lines”, fans are likely to find ties to these songs and fall in love with them.

There’s a chance that you may have heard of this group’s previous incarnation, Clouds and Cities. The band’s two members, Matt Wolk and Nick Marfing, have meticulously pieced together an album that manages to come off as both refreshing and fun. There’s nothing that will catch you off guard in any way, but there’s some comfort that can be found behind that statement when you’re listening to music from this genre.

With all of that being said, it’s tough to actually find something that actually stands out with this ep. There’s some great talent backing it, and the songs are very solid on their own, but there’s no real depth behind the work as a whole. Summer albums are always great in the summer, but what about for the other seasons of the year? At the end of it all, I’m genuinely left wondering if nostalgia is actually what people are looking for these days.
