This is perhaps the greatest day in the life of any hardcore Coheed and Cambria fan.

Our excitement is no match, though, for that of Claudio Sanchez, lead vocalist of the band and creator of the Sci-fi graphic novel The Amory Wars. This is, of course, the basis for all of the New York progressive rock band’s music and lyrics. Up until now, the story created by Sanchez and released by Evil Ink Comics has existed only in print form and in the 5 studio albums released by Coheed and Cambria.

Today, Variety.com has released the news that the Amory Wars has been picked up by “Boardwalk Empire” and “Entourage” producers Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson for a Live-Action feature. This is real life.

The graphic novels, published by partnership with BOOM! Studios, tells the tale and adventures of Coheed and Cambria Kilgannon and their son, Claudio Kilgannon. Set in a fictional galaxy called Heaven’s Fence, the story follows multiple characters, all fighting for freedom from an evil tyrant who was responsible for the death of the lead protagonist’s (Claudio) parents and sister.

The announcement for the screen adaptation was made this morning at Comic-Con in San Diego. More details to come as they arrive. Congratulations to Claudio, Chondra, and Blaze!
