BREAKING: Basement Announces Hiatus After Release of New Album

Consider me gutted: UK punk group Basement announced on their Facebook page today that after they release their record Colourmeinkindness this Fall on Run For Cover Records they will be taking a hiatus and not playing anymore shows or making any music for a while. As a huge fan of the band, this severely bums me out. Basement’s debut full length I Wish I Could Stay Here was absolutely magnificent, and I think it’s a real shame that they are calling it quits for a while. It’s ironic this happened because just yesterday I was sitting on the bus listening to them in the pouring rain, excited for the next time I get to see them live. Now that may not happen for a long, long time.

Basement showed a lot of potential as a powerhouse of their genre, and it’s disappointing to see them take a break so early in their musical career. They will be playing some last shows in the US before they go back  home for an indefinite time, so if you’re in the area please, please go see them. I will now be jamming I Wish I Could Stay Here for the rest of the day, bummed out.

You can see the statement from the band after the break, as well as their last dates in the US with Dead End Path, Daylight and Soul Search.

Now Colourmeinkindness is finished, we head out to play a string of shows across America. Due to a number of personal commitments, this record and these shows will be the last thing we do as a band for a very long time. Basement has never been about achieving anything; it was simply an enjoyable outlet for creativity and emotion. That being said, we are incredibly grateful for the support we have received over the last two years. We have managed to do some amazing things and see some incredible places and the people we have met along the way will be our friends forever. We seriously cannot express sufficiently how much this means to us. We all have things going on outside of the band that require a lot of time and attention and now more than ever these things have to come first.

There will be a last show and information will be released shortly.

Thank you for everything,
See you soon.

Alex, Andrew, Duncan, James and Ronan.
