STREAM: Underworld – “Caliban’s Dream” (Feat. Alex Trimble of Two Door Cinema Club)

So how fantastic were those Opening Ceremonies last night?

I’m still replaying some of the performances in my head after watching both the live stream and the primetime cut. There were some fantastic musical pieces, all orchestrated and assembled by Danny Boyle and his team of 15,000 volunteers.

One of my favorite songs was the one played whilst the final flame-bearers made their way to the incredible cool Olympic Torch. The song is called “Caliban’s Dream” and we discussed it a bit last night. For those still unaware, the vocalist featured is Alex Trimble, frontman of Two Door Cinema Club. He was asked by director Boyle himself to perform the song with the assistance of Only Men Aloud, Dockhead Choir, Elizabeth Roberts and percussion by Dame Evelyn Glennie.

You can listen to the song here and download it on iTunes along with the rest of the Opening Ceremony soundtrack.

    Not sure about these but just had a few listens and here’s what I heard:

    ### = unsure

    [ Instrumental: la-la ]

    And the rain ###turns the ###balance
    In the garden of the world
    But a flame arrives to guide us
    Past the ###wall between the arrows of the stars
    Watching over all the children in the rain
    And the streets where I remember
    Where the fire lights a candle’s souls again

    A burning flame
    Hear me call
    Through the darkness here
    A call to your soul

    And start again
    This beating heart
    Run to ###care

    [ Instrumental: bells ]
    [ Instrumental: whistling ]

    When the light dries all the fields
    And the joy drives out our pain
    And the nations come to greet us
    Waving molten loaves and waves of golden corn

    Can you hear us,
    Oh, the spirit of the world
    May your light be ever near us
    Always heal us from the dark that we may fall

    We’re a ###flame
    And ###reflect
    ###We’re the corn

    [ Instrumental: scale down, chimes ]

    And the rain tossed above us; In the garden of the worldBut a flame arrives to guide us; Past the gold between the angles of the starsWatch you over all the children in the rain; And the streets where I rememberWhere the fire that lights a candle soars again; A flaring flameHear it call; Through the darkness, hear it call to us allAnd start again; Its beating heart comes again

    what a superbly perfect song, brilliant balance between music and vocals – well performed, the musical highlight

    Past the gold between the angles of the stars
    Watch you over all the children in the rain;
    And the streets where I remember
    Where the fire that lights a candle soars again;
    A flaring flame Hear it call;
