John Mayer Announces New EP, Undergoing Surgery

John Mayer - 2012

John Mayer has done a lot of growing up in the past few years.

After giving up on teasing the media, quitting Twitter, and experiencing some medical problems, the singer-songwriter has gone from controversial playboy to a more modern-day Bob Dylan. His latest studio effort, Born and Raised,  received critical acclaim and is widely considered his foremost artistic achievement.

The gap between that record and the one to precede it was a large one. This distance was for good reason and the result was unquestionable, but I always finish the record wanting more. Mr. Mayer must have heard my silent cries, because today he has announced an iTunes exclusive EP to be released on August 7th.

Following this, John will head back into surgery for the granuloma that has plagued him for sometime, hopefully getting rid of it for good this time around. This will keep him out of commission for the remainder of the year and likely into the next, giving him time to write another record like his has mentioned in his plans within recent months.

On a different note, we love the artwork for Mayer’s recent releases. David Smith is the artist. Check out his other work.

Well this was a pleasant surprise.

I like the new album, however it isn’t his foremost musical achievement. That would be Continuum.
