Coheed and Cambria Announce ‘The Afterman’ Double Album

It’s finally here. The announcement of the sixth Coheed and Cambria studio record, with a twist.

Yes, the New York progressive rock gods have revealed the name of their upcoming double album, The Afterman.

The two piece album will be released just a few months apart. The Afterman: Ascension will be hitting shelves on October 9, while The Afterman: Descension will come in February. Each a portion of a concept tucked within the world of The Amory Wars.

There is plenty more to love and anticipate with The Afterman. Drummer, Josh Eppard, has returned to the band after his 2006 departure and this album will be the first recorded with new bassist, Zach Cooper. The album was funded and co-produced by the band itself with some help from Michael Birnbaum and Chris Bittner who produced the band’s first 3 records in New York.

It seems this is the Coheed and Cambria record fans have been waiting for. In a statement, lead singer Claudio Sanchez said:

“This is without a doubt, the most honest record I’ve ever written. Though all the songs can be interpreted through our main character in the story, they were initially written in a very spontaneous manner. In the past, I’ve always had a predetermined idea of what the story was going to be when I approached the songs. With ‘The Afterman’ being a new story within the (‘The Amory Wars’) arc, I allowed the events of my life to drive the concept, and therefore opened up the songwriting to a fuller degree.”

This announcement comes just weeks after one detailing the film production of The Amory Wars, the comic/graphic novel series written by Sanchez and the basis for the band’s lyrical content.
