Release Date For The Avengers 2

After the fangasmic announcement earlier this month that Joss Whedon would return to write and direct The Avengers 2, the release date has now been made official for us all to pencil into our calendars. Disney and Marvel have revealed that our favourite band of mismatched superheroes will next venture onto cinema screens on May 1, 2015. This is in keeping with Whedon’s recent deal with Marvel, which will see him develop a number of projects for the studio up and until the end of June 2015.

Quite a wait for us so, but Marvel have plenty of upcoming films to keep anticipation piqued in the years ahead. Iron Man 3 and Thor 2: The Dark World will reach us on May 3 2013 and November 8 2013 respectively, while Steve Rogers returns on April 4 2014 in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Those of you feeling super impatient (and we know the feeling) can relive all the joy of the first box office smash when it arrives on DVD and Blu-ray on September 25. The Blu-ray sounds particularly fun, with Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige dropping some intriguing hints about the extras –

There are a number of deleted scenes and a few storylines that fell by the wayside during the editing process for the big-screen release. However, we are very proud of these scenes and [Marvel’s The Avengers director] Joss Whedon is very proud of them, too. That’s why we’re excited that fans will be able to see them on Blu-ray. [You’ll see] a few more scenes with the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill, played by Cobie Smulders [as well as] some slightly different versions of Maria Hill and Nick Fury’s interaction with the World Security Council, which are great to watch – but there are a number of other fun scenes, too.”

All go in the Marvel universe, so.
