REVIEW: Glass Cloud – The Royal Thousand

It’s kind of scary to hear about a band that has had all sorts of opportunities come flying out at them within their first year of forming, but that’s just the case with Jerry Roush (ex-Sky Eats Airplane and Of Mice & Men) and Joshua Travis’ (ex-The Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza) collective venture with Glass Cloud.

No matter what, there’s always going to be that inevitable comparison between the artist’s old work and their new work. There’s always going to be the worry and wonder to see if the newest work has that same heavy/melodic factor that old fans of SEA and OM&M have grown to love, and there’s always going to be that same amount of wonder if going to have the same amount of extravegant fretwork that listeners have admired from TTDTDE.

The short answer? Yes, it has all of that, and more.

The Royal Thousand might just be one of my favorite albums of 2012. The band articulately places so many eye-opening and jaw-dropping parts into their songs that beg the listener to keep a close ear for more semi-subliminal examples of musicianship and skill that are buried beneath Travis’ chaotic fretwork.

As long as you keep in mind that this is still a metalcore/post-hardcore album, and you’ll be golden.
