Deftones Will Release Scrapped Album

In 2008, original Deftones’ bassist Chi Cheng was in a car crash that put him in a coma. Only as recently as this past July did he finally make it out of the hospital to recover at home. Back in 2008, the Deftones were working on an album with Cheng, Eros, that was scrapped when the band hired new bassist Sergio Vega.

In an interview with California alternative radio station KROQ, lead singer and guitarist Chino Moreno said that Eros would eventually see the light of day. He said “…I think [Eros] really captured that time in our lives and I don’t think we’re ready to look back at that time just yet. It’s really still fresh, like a fresh wound in a way, so it’s like one day we’ll release it but right now it’s one of the most personal things that we still deal with everyday so to kind of go there at this point when we feel like we’re really trudging forward doesn’t feel right.

The Deftones are about to release their second album without Cheng on bass, titled Koi No Yokan. It will be released on November 13.
