The best-selling Shaq’s All Star Comedy Jam returns with the Lionsgate Home Entertainment and Codeblack Films release of Shaquille O’Neal Presents All Star Comedy Jam Live from Orlando on DVD and Digital Download on October 9th, which features a line-up of some of the funniest and most outrageous urban comedians on the scene.   To coincide with the DVD release, Shaquille O’Neal’s Shaq Entertainment will be taking the All Star Comedy Jam on the road again this fall with a nationwide comedy tour starting September 1st in Las Vegas.

Hosted by funnyman Gary Owen, who is known for his roles in Steve Harvey’s blockbuster hit Think Like A Man and TV’s “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne,” the All Star Comedy Jam includes Saturday Night Live’s Jay Pharoah, Capone (TV’s “Showtime at the Apollo”), Lil’ Duval (TV’s “BET’s Comicview”), and Tony Roberts (Comedy Only in da Hood). Owen is by far the perfect choice for the hosting gig, as his high-energy, likable humor serves to maintain the show’s energy throughout the night.

“Sometimes when you have a show like this, where it’s an ensemble cast, where there’s like four or five of us, what I want is for people to leave the show going, ‘That whole thing was funny.’ And it’s my job as the host to keep the energy up between the acts,” Owen recently told me in an interview for Boston Comedy Scene Examiner. “I want people to be like, ‘The whole show was good.’ I don’t want people saying, ‘The first guy was good. Second guy wasn’t that great – the third guy was okay.’ When you’re in this business long enough, what I know is, the guy that goes on last has the hardest job. It’s not because he’s not as funny, but a lot of times, audiences can laugh so hard for so long they could just lose energy and get tired. They still think that guy’s just as funny, but they’re just tired. So it’s my job to keep the energy up, keep them hyped up so that from the first guy to the last guy, they’re excited to see them.”

While comedians Lil’ Duval and Tony Roberts provide solidly humorous middle sets, the show’s overall comedic strength is solidified by outstanding performances by Jay Pharoah, who opens the show, and Capone, the night’s closer.  Pharoah’s nonstop energy and hilarious on-target impressions more than set the stage for an enjoyable night of laughs as he delights the crowd with his trademark style fans have grown to love.

Capone, fitting known as the ‘Gangsta of Comedy’, adds a touch of style to the night as he takes the final spot on stage, citing that he’s “a grown man who does grown up things,” and even jokingly admonishing tour DJ Spinderella for bringing him out to ‘childish music’. As he soon details the highlights of various ethnicities of women, he’s forced to admit he’s never had sex with a white woman – much to the extreme delight of a rather large white woman in the front row, who proceeds to, quite literally, bounce up and down in her seat with excitement.

Shaquille O’Neal Presents All Star Comedy Jam Live from Orlando offers audiences an in-home comedy experience that feels remarkably like the real thing: with its showcase-style lineup and never-waning energy, it’s the closest thing to actually being at the comedy club. The tour’s fresh new lineup delivers laugh-out-loud performances from start to finish in a memorable night of comedy. “All Star Comedy Jam – Live from Orlando” was filmed at Hard Rock Live, in front of a live audience during the All-Star Weekend in Orlando, FL.  Stacked with nonstop laughs, the All Star Comedy Jam DVD includes exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and is available now on Amazon.com.
