Surrounded By Monsters Cancel Tour Dates; Blame The Bunny The Bear

UPDATE: I (James) spoke with members of The Bunny The Bear following the publication of this article. The show which SBM claim TBTB never performed was actually played as an acoustic set. No performances were outright cancelled.

Surrounded By Monsters have been criss-crossing the country as support for Victory Records’ The Bunny The Bear, but according to a new tour update that is no longer the case. Apparently, Surrounded By Monsters have grown so disgusted with the behavior and antics of The Bunny The Bear that they cannot continue traveling with them or supporting their headlining tour. To make it clear to fans exactly what has been unfolding before their eyes, Surrounded By Monsters released a lengthy update and video message for fans. You can view the message below and/or watch the video after the jump.

From SBM:

We, Surrounded By Monsters, regret to inform our fans that we have decided to drop the remaining dates on The Bunny The Bear tour. This is a decision made by Surrounded By Monsters and not anyone else. We are very sorry to those who were planning on coming to see us at the scheduled shows, but we refuse to continue to support a band like The Bunny The Bear. From the start of this tour The Bunny The Bear has been disrespectful and confrontational to ticket holders by calling people in the audience derogatory remarks, to canceling sets because not enough people were in the audience for them to care. This is not something that we as a band support or endorse and we will not tolerate it any further. Once again, we are very sorry to those who were coming out to see us on this tour. We hate canceling shows, but under these circumstances we feel it is our only option. It is the fans and their support that make a bands growth and life possible, and by no means should The Bunny The Bear think they have the right to treat people the way they do. No band should EVER put themselves above their fans.

Our distaste for The Bunny The Bear has been public for awhile, but reading this adds another nail to the coffin that was our respect for their music. If one person is in the audience, YOU STILL PLAY THE SHOW. Thinking you deserve a certain presence before you’ll perform, especially in a genre like that of The Bunny The Bear, is downright atrocious. How much of a collective asshole can one group of so-called musicians be?
