REVIEW: Lasorda – Lasorda

Band: Lasorda
Album: Lasorda
Genre: Electro/Indie
Label: Unsigned

Lasorda is a new super-group of sorts comprised of Suzannah Johannes, Matt Pryor of The Get Up Kids, Nate Harold of fun. and The Honorary Title, Dustin Kinsey of The New Amsterdams, Mike Strandberg of Kevin Devine and the Goddamn Band and Josh Adams of Ghosty. With such an array of weathered musicians, this release should be nothing but stellar, right?

If I’m being completely honest, I don’t fully grasp the nature of this album. I tried to tackle this review with a completely open mind, but I just don’t get it. As an indie release, there are moments when the album really shines like on tracks such as “Is There Anymore To Lose”, “No Intent To Return” and the second half of “Sleep When You’re Dead” when the song really opens up. However, for the most part, the songs on this release tend to blend together and bore me.

That’s not to say that the album won’t appeal to anyone. I’m sure there is a niche for a band such as Lasorda. In fact, had the album come out sooner, I could easily picture each song on this album appearing on the soundtrack of 2011’s Drive, which was actually a soundtrack I sort of enjoyed. Additionally, that movie was awesome.

Lasorda will be released on December 11 via Clifton Motel. Pre-orders for the album are already available on Clifton Motel’s web store or on iTunes. Feel free to stream “No Intent To Return” and “Sleep When You’re Dead” from the album here and decide for yourself. If I had to pick, I’d say “No Intent To Return” is my favorite track on the album. It just reminds me of good times.
