Monday Morning Mind-Melter: Destroyed Weapon Orchestra

Melt

That’s a cool band name right? It isn’t, but it could be. Trademark pending.

Anyway, welcome back to Monday Morning Mind-Melters. It’s been forever and a day since the last entry, but this is the Internet and I do what I want.

This caught my eye today and I thought I’d share. This is John Lennon’s “Imagine” played on instruments made out of confiscated and destroyed weapons. Lots of weapons. 6,700 weapons to be exact.

From this, Pedro Reyes created 50 instruments of the wind, percussion and stringed variety. These were played by 6 musicians in Mexico city to perform the eerie tune.

Eerie is fitting, too as many of these weapons were used to murder people. Having them bring music to life is as Reyes said it best, “[it’s] as if a sort of exorcism was taking place. The music expelled the demons they held, as well as being a requiem for lives lost.”

Sounds cool right? Check it out.
