Sci-fi is extremely hit or miss; typically miss more often than not, but director Guillermo Del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth/Hellboy) is set to release his giant robots vs. giant monsters film, Pacific Rim, on Jul 12, 2013 and the new trailer released today looks pretty fucking sweet. Chock full of action, intensity and the aforementioned monsters/robots, the two-minute-and-twenty-second trailer may be an indication that Pacific Rim could be a huge summer blockbuster for 2013.

Starring Sons Of Anarchy players Charlie Hunnam and Ron Perlman as well as The Wire‘s Idris Elba, Pacific Rim focuses on a war between massive human-piloted robots and giant monsters risen from the sea. I don’t want to give too much of the plot away so just watch the new trailer below and get excited. Pacific Rim will certainly be one to see on the big screen for the full experience.
